Shrimp
farmers will benefit from the latest technology adaptation
undertaken by the Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine
Research and Development (PCAMRD).
By using
probiotics, reservoir and greenwater in shrimp ponds, the
number of luminous bacterical count may be lowered down to
negligible levels resulting to an increased harvest of three
to four tons per hectare with a stocking rate of 20-25 PLs
per hectare.
Procedures
on the use of probiotics are as follows:
1. After
thorough pond preparation, fill the pond with water up to
60-60 cm depth. Add activated Probiotic (dose rate depending
on the kind of probiotic used).Activation and method of
Probiotic Application:
a.
Fill a fiberglass tank with 200 liters pond with water.
b. Add
the desired amount of Probiotic to the fiberglass tank with
water
c.
Aerate constantly (or stir regularly) for two to ten hours
depending on the kind of probiotic used.
d.
Spread this mixture evenly over the pond with aerators
running to ensure good turbulence.
2. Run
aerators constantly for at least three days during the pond
preparation period.
3. Remove
any sludge or solids which rise to the water surface. Turn
aerators for an hour to make sludge removal easy.
4. Check
water quality
a.
smell mud drawn from the pond bottom
b.
check quality of surface scum removed
c.
check pH (suitable range of 7.8 to 8.0)
d.
salinity (20-28 ppt)
e.
turbidity (40-50 cm)
f.
ammonia (below 0.2 ppm)
5. When
water parameter is good, fill pond to maximum depth
(fertilizer if water is not fertile)
6. During
the culture period apply probiotic every three to five days
depending upon the condition of the pond water at a dose
rate depending on the kind of probiotic used.
Note:
1. Apply
probiotic two days after using a disinfectant
2. During
water replacement, ensure that the incoming water is not
polluted, otherwise do not drain, change water but use extra
probiotic plus aeration. |
